Extracted from a selected Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeast strain, Safglucan® is a highly purified yeast fraction with a guaranteed minimum of 50% 1,3-1,6 beta glucans.
The molecular structure of glucans sourced from cereals or bacteria are different from the structure of glucans extracted from fungi and yeast and it is important to note that not all β-glucans act the same in relation to immunity and supporting the immune system. Structure, molecular weight, linkage and the manufacturing process can all affect their ability to support the immune system.
As a feed material, Safglucan® can only be fed as part of a finished commercial feed or complementary supplement.
Among β-glucans, β 1,3-1,6 are the only forms considered biologically active and they modify the response immune cells by interacting on specific receptors (Vetvicka, 2011). Their mode of action involves a specific part of the immune system located in the small intestine called Peyer’s patches.
